“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.” Matthew 6:22 NIV
We believe preventative healthcare is key to living a full and healthy life, and with the eyes being “windows to the body” optometrists play a crucial role in this health model. Many ocular and systemic problems present without obvious symptoms and are only revealed during a “routine eye exam.” The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends adult preventative eye exams at least every two years or annually if at higher risk. Here are a few of Dr. Garcia’s cases where a routine eye examination revealed life-changing information about general health:

8-year-old boy with swollen optic nerves in both eyes. He had good vision but was complaining of more frequent headaches. He was referred to a pediatric neurologist for consultation.

30-year-old female with swollen optic nerves in both eyes. She had 20/20 vision and no complaints at all. She was referred to a neurologist for consultation.

52-year-old male with signs of a blocked vein in the left retina. He was complaining of blurry vision and some floaters. He was referred to retinal specialist for consultation.

43-year-old female with good vision and no symptoms. During the dilated exam I discovered a large raised retinal lesion. She was referred to retinal specialist and ocular oncologist.
